Anyone who’s ever had a cyst knows that they’re not fun. They’re painful, unsightly, and can sometimes even be dangerous. So, it should come as no surprise that a horror movie about a cyst would be just as unpleasant. “Cyst” is a low-budget indie film that follows the story of a nurse’s last day on the job, which takes a turn for the worse when a doctor accidentally creates a cyst monster. While the film has some entertaining moments, its overall cheapness and lack of scares make it an forgettable entry in the horror genre.

The Good

While “Cyst” is far from being a good movie, it does have some redeeming qualities. For one, the acting is actually pretty decent considering the film’s low budget. The nurse, played by Sarah Lassez, does a good job of conveying the frustration and exhaustion that come with working in a high-stress environment like a hospital. The doctor, played by William Katt, also gives a solid performance. He manages to strike the right balance between being bumbling and incompetent without being annoying.

The Bad

Unfortunately, these decent performances are not enough to save “Cyst” from being a bad movie. One of the film’s biggest problems is its cheapness. It’s obvious that the filmmakers didn’t have much money to work with, and it shows in every aspect of the production. The sets are bare-bones, the special effects are terrible, and even the costumes look like they were bought at a thrift store. This lack of polish makes it hard to take the film seriously as a horror movie.

Another problem with “Cyst” is that it’s just not very scary. There are only a handful of jump scares throughout the entire film, and none of them are particularly effective. This is likely due to the fact that most of the scares are telegraphed by cheesy music cues that give away what’s about to happen.

Conclusion

“Cyst” is a low-budget indie horror movie that suffers from bad production values and lack of scares. Although there are some decent performances from the cast, they’re not enough to save this forgettable film from being entirely skippable.
