What Are the Obvious Differences Between the Honda Talon 1000R and 1000X?

The Honda Talon was introduced to the market in 2019 and was designed to compete with the RZR from Polaris. In addition, the Talon offers the 1000R and 1000X models. So if you’re thinking of purchasing a new Honda Talon, how do you know which off-roading vehicle is right for you?

The Main Differences Between the 1000X and the 1000R

The main distinction between these two Honda Talon vehicles is that the 1000X is an SXS that allows you to maneuver easily, and the 1000R is designed for high speed. Both vehicles have the same 999cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine and have a horsepower of 104. While this is not as much horsepower as the Polaris RZR, both Honda Talons are powerful vehicles due to their DCT or dual-clutch transmission. In addition, both Honda vehicles have hi-low sub-transmission and can easily transform into a 12-speed ATV. This feature makes it easier to safely operate the vehicle at high speeds while traveling through rugged terrain.

What Does One Honda Talon Have That the Other Doesn’t?

The Talon 1000X has designed suspension accessories so you can operate the vehicle with ease. You’ll also experience more traction and a secure grip which makes this model ideal if climbing and crawling are part of your off-roading excursions.

The 1000X also has a wishbone-shaped front suspension, Fox shocks, and 14.5 inches of travel. The vehicle also has high suspension due to its 3-link rear suspension; this, along with the Fox shocks, actually gives you an impressive 15 inches of travel. This ATV is designed to travel far in short spans of time in wide, open terrain. If you plan on traveling in desert or salt-flat settings, this is the adventure vehicle for you. Since the vehicle has superior suspension, you won’t feel the extreme impact from bumps in the road, and you can accelerate your speed while maintaining steering control.

On the other hand, the Talon 1000R has a 4+ link training arm as part of its rear suspension in addition to the double-wishbone suspension in the front of the vehicle. Both suspensions on the 1000R have Fox shocks, and the front and rear suspensions give you 17.7 and 20.1 travel inches, respectively.

The Cost of a 2021 Honda Talon UTV

If you’re shopping for a 2021 Honda Talon, you’ll have plenty of UTV choices to browse through. Your UTV will largely depend on how you plan to use the off-roading vehicle and how much you’re willing to spend. You can find a Talon 1000X two-seater on the low end for around $20,000. The starting price for the Talon 1000X-4 is $21,999, and the price increases as you add accessories and customized features.

The lowest-priced brand new 1000R is a two-seater and will cost around $20,999. Unfortunately, this model does not have a 4-seater option. However, there are Special Edition models of the 1000X-4 and 1000R. If you prefer a Special Edition, you can expect to pay at least $5,000 more than the regular price.

Honda also offers Fox Live Valves for all its 2021 Talon UTV models. These models are considered mid-range and are a step above the basic models but not as exclusive as the Special Edition vehicles.

No matter which model you choose, your Honda Talon will make off-roading more fun and adventurous for years to come. Whether you want to off-road on the beach or want to explore the open countryside, Honda Talon offers safe and customizable vehicles that allow for speed, control, and the chance to see the wonder of the outdoors from a new perspective.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for Honda Talon parts for your new or used ATV, you can search local marketplaces to find the perfect accents to make your off-roading vehicle safer and more customized. You can also talk to a friend or loved one who is familiar with Honda UTVs to explore the pros and cons of each vehicle and decide which one is best for your off-roading excursions.
